    Hi,

I'm planning on adding some more RAM to my Lenovo notebook. Currently, I'm running 2GB (Kingston SO-DIMM DDR2 PC2-5300 667 MHz CL5). As I already own another 1 GB RAM stick, I thought I could add it, because one slot is still empty. However, this 1 GB RAM specifications are: Nanya Technology PC2-6400, 400 MHz.
Is that 1 GB RAM faster or slower than the latter? Its frequency is lower but the number PC2-xxxx is higher. Can they be mixed?
    Thank you.

It will either work or it won't and there's only one way to find out....And it won't hurt to try.

Yes, I guess I will give it a try... :) Is there no risk of causing damage to the laptop when installing RAM running at a higher frequency than that advised by the manufacturer?

Unlikely any damage could occur, more likely thye bios will throw out an error code. If the motherboard does not support a RAM frequency the comp won't work at all. Try it and see what happens.

From what I heard some time ago, the computer always adjusts itself to the slower RAM frequency if you install RAM of different speed. Is that true?

More or less, whether both ram modules will work together is another issue. As Steve & Tony posted, try them and see.
