I have been trying to create a VPN connection for work and everytime I try I get a message that says "The Wizard Cannot connect ". I also only get 3 selections to continue, Try again which immediately brings me back to the cannot connect screen, Diagnose the problem which does nothing at all, and Setup the connection anyway which closes the window and does not save anything.

Someone had suggested that I may have turned off Treminal Services accidently, but that is running just fine. Some else aksed me to try restating in safe mode with networking and trying to create the VPN that way, but I got the same results.

    Anyone else reported this issue?

I am running Vista Ultimate at home. I just tried to do the same thing here at work where I am running Vista Business and I got the same results.

So - you're being prompted for an IP - UserName - Password - How certain are you that you're typing the correct info?

Are there any firewalls\routers involved that need to be tweaked to allow access out or in?

Not using the IP address for the VPN connection, I am using the DNS name. User name and password is the same I use everywhere else to access work related shares, so I am quite certain I am typing correctly.

I don't have any special firewall settings on the PC at work that I am having the same issue with. Same goes for my home PC.

When I use my Mac laptop either here at work or at home running my Windows 7 boot partition, the VPN works just fine.

Must be some setting that I forgot about during re-install of Vista on both machines.

I actually was able to create the VPN connection on my work PC, both with the DNS name and the IP address. Although when creating the connection, the wizard still reports that it could not connect to the VPN.

Once I open up Manage Network Connections and double-click on the VPN connection, it asks to enter user name and password then connects just fine.

I will have to try and setting up the connection at home with the IP instead of the DNS name and see how that works.

    Thanks for the suggestion.

Am sure someone here can assist with the DNS resolution issue if it gets down to that.

Yeah, I tried to setup the VPN with the IP address instead of the DNS name and had the same results.

Could this be a Firewall issue?

I got this to work finally by installing a Cisco VPN client.
