hello, first time post, will introduce just after this.

i basically need: to be able to add a software restirction rule to the gpedit via command line OR any other passive and/or unattended method... any ideas?

long story: need to prevent/avoid users from installing certain software (in this very special case MS Office 03) and i thought of just adding the software policy for pro11.msi and (in xp) it works fine, but now i need to apply this to way too many computers (even thou we have a domain and everythin working out i cant rely on em, gotta do it myself)... any ideas?

i also thought on disabling msi but i has certain issues with some windows updates, so i cant take that risk...

i looked all over to see if i could configure windows installer (not via gpedit, but a msi config file, ini, dll, registry entry or anything like that (and i found nothing)) so if it detects that pro11.msi is the msi file running then prevent that specific install but i could not find such info.

ive relied already on batch files for applying some other restrictions but these type (software restrictions) dont look to be that easy to apply via command line.

if somebody has a better idea on how to solve my main specific issue (prevent the install of such package), i'd love to know about it.

    please help-

    thanks.

I think you will get better attention in the appropriate OS forum (this is not a Security issue - malware, etc) - anything other than XP involved?

Post back and your thread will be moved.
