Haven't gotten to the new install, won't be for a couple days yet.
Whatever it was, a restart cured it. Computers are just strange!
No sweat on the comment. Everyone has a different level of patients. It's only when people get pushy that I take issue. We're all human, which means "far from perfect ". I'm a perfect example of this for sure.
That we see our faults and apologise for the messes we create is really all we can ask. We're all in this boat together.

BTW, when I asked about copying programs I meant by cloning. I figure if I can clone a drive then why can't I just transfer the "programs" portion of the clone and save a ton of time. Make sense?
    I use iTunes.

I recommend Acronis for cloning, but in this case I feel a clean install is 1. cleaner ;) and 2. will avoid any issues being transferred to a new install (ie your sound issue > now resolved)

Yes it is strange about how Windows works after a restart, I only wish cars were like that (open and close all windows and doors, then see if the car runs again :D )

iTunes has had some issues with older versions, the latest updated version is 9.0.3 from HERE

    Dude, that's LOL funny! :D:D:D

    Do you use this ver?
    I'm on 7.6.0.29
Was using ver 8 and had problems so reverted back. Can't recall what the issues were. I think that's what drives people crazy here - that I don't remember what I changed or what the problem was. I just find a fix and dump the info so I'll have plenty of gray matter for the next thing. Probably not the best system, but w/ school I have so much going on (in my brain) that I just don't have room for all of it. :(
Oh, I do recall iTunes 2x losing the music. I opened it up and there was no music. Dude, I have over 200GB's of music. That was a disaster. It happened back before I had a backup drive. (I guess it's obvious I learn most things the hard way. )
Just looked and it seems there's no benefit to the new ver. Seems the new ver's are more about their store, iPhones, and iPods, none of which I use. I try to avoid Apple whenever possible. I use a Creative Labs player.

Yeah, I've heard nothing but good about Acronis. I may have to break down and buy it. I use Seagate Disc Wizard now (free w/ the drive), and Easeus Partition Master for repartitioning.

Regarding EASEUS Partition Master. Best to just let Windows setup the partitions and automatically assign the correct cache.
EASEUS Partition Master, is really meant after you have Windows installed and you then want to make modifications - of which you won't need to.

This thread is about: SFC Scan won't run
We should stick to topic to avoid thread closure. At this stage you are going to do a clean install
Will hear back from you then :)

I don't think things are so tight around here that we can't bring in other (computer) related topics.
I believe it's more about keeping the purely social stuff over on the General Board.

Hmm, not sure, that may be an Admin decision
I try to keep to topic only, but then again maybe you would like to create a "General Board" topic, to discuss many things. Not sure if that's been done in one thread before.

Will hear back from you then, then :D

Chas having separate threads for different issues helps others facing similar problems search for solutions. Also threads can become very confusing if several topics are being discussed.

I would also advise that you only maintain one thread at a time, it's not easy solving several problems at once. One step at a time mate.

I do hear what you're both saying, and I agree. Sometimes it's just a bit difficult for me, I'm ADHD, so my mind is everywhere at once.
I was referring to something simple like, "what ver of iTunes are you using?" or "I use Partition Master ", and the like.
I do get it about keeping the issues separate. A basic necessity for a simpleton like myself! ;)
