I have two TS machines with 25 users each hitting the machines and using our accounting software.

Every once in a Blue Moon any one of the users might need to do a mail merge letter and or export to Word or Excel.

From what I understand, Office 2007 "Open License Edition" has a minumum of 3 seats if purchased for the first time.

QUESTION: If I just get the three seats - would that be like a per user type license...And as long as no more then three people at time use one of the Office Apps - I'd be good to go:confused:

    Thanks in advance.

REVISED: If the local user has a copy of Office installed on their local machine - would I be legal if they access Office on the TS machine.

Installing Office 2k7 in a terminal server environment requires you to use volume licensing keys. You will not be able to install it if you use a key that requires activation.
Here's a link outlining the requirements.

Thanks but I knew that part.

I'm hoping to find out that I only need the minimun 3 to 5 licenses since the users have Office on their local machines too.

    From the licensing terms:
    1. OVERVIEW. These license terms permit installation and use of one copy of the software on one device, along with other rights, all as described below.
    2. INSTALLATION AND USE RIGHTS. Before you use the software under a license, you must assign that license to one device. That device is the “licensed device.” A hardware partition or blade is considered to be a separate device.
    a. Licensed Device. You may install and use one copy of the software on the licensed device.
    b. Portable Device. You may install another copy on a portable device for use by the single primary user of the licensed device.

    This also:
    3. ADDITIONAL LICENSING REQUIREMENTS AND/OR USE RIGHTS.
    a. Remote Access. The single primary user of the licensed device may access and use the software installed on the licensed device remotely from any other device. You may allow other users to access the software to provide you with support services. You do not need additional licenses for this access. No other person may use the software under the same license at the same time for any other purpose.

I would say that the license used to install on the local machine does not apply in the term serve environment.

Thanks...On one hand I agree with this...On the other hand - I think if there was ever a time for an exception...this would be a perfect example.

I've written a few people at Microsoft but haven't heard back.

just want to share my idea...

since you'll be connected to a TS then you local license ( workstation) will not be used. then I guess you have more licenses enough for our remote users.

    just my .01 cent :)
