no audio device,no sound

I was confused with my pc, after installing xp I can't install sound when I checked the divice manager I can't found the audio device there, I was expecting to see that question mark but there's is none, when I try to install the sound driver it says that I don't have audio device installed on my system, how was it happened, is my board damaged? I was able to install audio driver but still the volume control is faded gray or not active, and I can't see the speaker Icon near the clock.

need some good advice pls..

 

is this for the onboard audio ?

If so have you tried the motherboard drivers disk ?

 

yes ickymay, yes I already installed the drivers on the mboard's cd, its not my firstime to install xp on my pc, it is the first time I incouter a trouble like this, thank's

 

If you've already tried the m/board drivers have you verified that your on-board sound device is enabled in the BIOS?

after you've checked if it's enabled in the bios maybe try checking your drivers are the latest from the ASUS website

 

Ickymay, I just checked the bios but still nothing happened, I try to format and install xp again , it says that the audio chipset not found in my system, and I can't install the audio driver. lately I was able to install the ac97 but when I go to sound properties it is again in faded gray meaning not active or cannot be adjusted.

 

If you right click my computer then select properties, then select the Hardware tab and click on the device manager button ......

are there any warning icons especially under sound video and game controllers ?

 

hello evan, I think thats another good advise, I did'nt install the anything on the boards driver because it is damage, I am now downloading the driver I'll see it if it work. thanks
