I have just noticed that the autorun function no longer works when I insert CDs. At the same time I noticed that all of my games play OK if I start them manually except for 2 of them which are the commonest ones I play:
    (a) Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter; when I put this in the CD it freezes until I get a not responding message (the CD Icon doesn't change), and
    (b) Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2, the icon changes to that of the game but then I get an error message saying: " GRAW2 requires an up to date version of PhysX and associated DLLs. Please install the latest PhysX runtime ". I have tried re-installing but it doesnt work. I also have an up to date Nvidia driver with PhysX enabled)

I played these games OK just a few days ago with no problem. The only issue I've had was a couple of trojans resolved by Broni. Likewise the autorun issue has just started out of the blue.

Can anyone please offer some advice.
    PS:
In the registry in NoDriveAutoRun, the Value Data shows '3ffffff' and the Base is set at Hexadecimal.
In Tweak UI under control panel>types, enable autoplay is checked.

I know there are 2 problems here but I have put them together as they may be allied (possibly)
    Thanks

    Try this first.

    Verify you’re at:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER /Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Policies/Explorer

    Value for NoDriveTypeAutoRun. Hexadecimal base
95 - will enable Autorun for CD drives, disable it for USB drives.
b5 - will disable for both.

    Exit registry editor.
    Reboot.

    Thanks Ephemarial,
I've tried that and get the whirring sound that precedes the box opening, but it doesn't complete.
The GRAW CDs are the same.

Leave previous setting at 95 now another setting.
    HKLM/System/CurrentControlSet/Services/CDROM

AutoRun setting on right half of screen.
Hopefully it’s a 0 = change it to 1 (same number in hex or decimal).
    Don't change anything else there.

    exit and reboot.

Just verified it on my computer.

Did you reboot? I know some places say it takes effect immediately but that wasn't true for me.

Out of ideas - really, really thought that last 1 would be it.

Hopefully someone else can jump in.

ps - Because of the err msg about DLL's - I'd also uninstall the games completely - and reinstall them.

Thanks for your help. The game issues have been resolved (at least GRAW2) when I found a PhysX download. I think the other game disk has just coincidentally become corrupted. But as you say maybe someone else can jump in the the autorun issue.
    Thanks

Re this problem with autorun, apart from the help from Ephemarial above I have also tried for some advice at www.techguy.org, and these are the steps I have taken:
    Registry;
The relevant registry entries are set as follows:-
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Cdrom]
    "AutoRun "=dword:0000001

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon]
    "allocatecdroms "= "0 "

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
"NoDriveTypeAutoRun "=dword:00000091 (there appears to be some discussion as to whether this data value should be set at 95 or 91..windows suggest 91. I've tried BOTH)

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
    "NoSaveSettings "=dword:00000000

    Tweak UI:-
I've ensured that autoplay is enabled for CDs and also for removable drives

Services:- 'Shell Hardware Detection is running on Automatic.

The only changes to my computer since it did work are to install upgrades for windows XP, Java and PhysX, and to run diagnostics to remove a couple of trojans.

Any help with this would be appreciated, Thanks
