:eek:RE: Above, i've tried everything from allowing program through firewall, checking for malware, etc. it either comes up as "Downloading 1 update, 0KB total, 0% complete," or 66% complete then stays that way until "failed to install" appears. It did this the first time i used windows update on this computer and continues to.

Find error codes associated with the failing update in the WindowsUpdate.log.

Type %windir%\WindowsUpdate.log in your Start menu search box & press Enter

    Post relevant info here.

For more information see: How to read the Windowsupdate.log file

Well, without further info, there's nothing I can suggest, so my suggestion above still stands.

Wow. tech stuff. I wouldnt even know how to start backing up the registry, what keys etc. I'd like to attempt it but it may be alittle risky for me at this stage of the game! anyway, should this be happening on a new computer?

Dave post the windowsupdate.log for the moment, don't mess with your registry etc.

    Try the following

    Uninstall Powerpoint Viewer

    Run CCleaner

    Restart

Download and install Powerpoint Viewer again

Try updating to Service Pack 1 again

Note: all the links above in blue are clickable.
I hope from doing the above it resolves the issue for you. If so please let us know :)

    Edit:
Oh wildfire replied when I replied

    Edit2
Powerpoint Viewer System Requirements from HERE
Hmm, it doesn't mention Windows 7, but obviously it works on your system
The SP1 link also does not state Windows 7. Maybe it doesn't work with Windows 7 ?

Anyway, please try the above :)

    PPV SP1? Paaaah!

Phew! After all that delving around, it seems that my problem is resolved. Bharahndir Reddy on another forum suggested i install powerpoint viewer SP2, which i did successfully which obliterated the need for SP1 giving me the green light. Simple, eh? No idea why SP1 wouldnt install though, but all updates seem to be dowloading fine now. Thanks to all who took an interest.:D
