I need the D: Drive not in mycomputer.

There's no command line in Autoexec & Config.

How do I create a command line in Autoexec so that I can have a D: Drive.

Have the CD Rom installed (56X Maddog); using Win98SE, 800MHz, 256 Ram, 6 gig HD.

Thanks much, need answer right away.

    You need answer.

We need info before we cna suggest a fix.

Is the D: supposed to be the CDROM or a partiton on the HD ?

Where do you not have the D: drive ? In Windows or DOS ?

Did you have it and then lose it ?

    Here's what happened

Computer #1 -- Win98SE, came home there was a message "Windows Protection error," VetMon95, couldn't get the computer started.

Went to the second computer -- I have a used Toshiba 400 Mhz desktop.
The CD ROM that came with it was working, installed all the software incl'd win98se, but then it stopped.

I went to the store, bought a newer CD ROM 56X, and swapped CD's.
No D: drive specified in the MyComputer. Can't install Cd's.

How do I get it back? The door opens, ejects, light goes no. Nothing happening bec there's no D: Drive specified.

Autoexec & Config command lines empty.

I NEED THE LETTER DRIVE TO SHOW IN MYCOMPUTER SO I CAN INSTALL CD ROM PROGRAMS.

When u swapped the cd drive, did u check if the drive was set to slave or master. if u only have a HD and a CD. The HD is set to master, and the cd depends: if u have the cd connected to the same cable that's connected to the HD then the cd must be slave, if the cd is connected to another ide/scussi (another cable) then it can be turned into a master (secondary master).

Also u may try going into the bios, to check if the cd is being detected.

    Hope this helps...

    In the BIOS

    1. Removable Disk
    2. Hard disk
    3. [ATAPI CD ROM]
    4. [Network support]

This is how it lines up in Bios.

The CD ROM light goes on, the door ejects. It seems to be working. I checked to make sure cables are tight.
I used the [gray] connector that came with the new CDROM, assume the jumpers were pre-set.

    IT "S A VIRUS!

The Vetmon95 was a VIRUS! That's why I got the windows protection error and couldn't startup the computer. See below:

    Win95.Memorial

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
this text was written by Peter Szor, Data Fellows Ltd
Memorial is a very interesting Windows 95 virus. There has been a long development in Windows virus writing so far [end of 1997]. However the list of the Windows 95 infectors is still not long. Memorial shows new ideas by being a "memory resident" Windows 95 virus. That is, it infects DOS-based COM and EXE files as well as Win32 PE (Portable Executable) files respectively. The main format of the virus is a Windows 95 VxD (Virtual Device Driver).
