Im somewhere between learner and bit more than learner so bare with me please.

I have had numerous problems with my Hp Pavilion zv5000 laptop. Its old now (2003) but ran well in its time. AVG problem which virused it badly, gave to a friend which made it worse. So had a go myself.

Most obvious problem was that it was very slow initially couldn't get online at all, booting up took forever and functions and pages overlapped and didn't refresh. Big Red X on hard drive. I read all threads on this problem and did the following : downloaded Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware which found more problems than the rolling stones have had birthdays. One of which was Vundo which has been given as a Red X symptom. Downloaded Advanced System Care (brilliant) which cleaned up all tmp. pos and idx files and general reg clearout. So now Malwarebytes reports 0 problems.

But... although greatful to be posting using laptop which has vastly improved, I still have Red X and she's still slow loading Explorer 8 and sites visited. Once there I can move ok through the site but still slow. Booting up and waiting for programmes to load on Task Bar still slow.

Is it possible that the Red X indicates that unhelpful friend partitioned c drive and how would I know?

Any advice greatfully received, thank you...Boudica

If you copy the following quoted text into Notepad
Then Select File > Save as..
    Then save as name: RemoveRedX.reg
Then under that line select "Save as type ":> All files
Then select Save (also note: that you can select Desktop as the save location)
    Then close Notepad

Then right click on the newly created file RemoveRedX.reg, and select Merge > Yes
    Then Restart

The RedX will be gone :)

But please reply back, so we can address the other issues as well

    Thank you for your reply.

I copied pasted merged restarted and the pesky cross still lives:confused:

Also noticed some IDX files got past the clean up?

Any further ideas very welcomed, thanks...Boudica
