    OH MY, Ramona!

My directvinternet account allows 5 email boxes. I was using 1, and one bellsouth account and everything had been working fine since the beginning of august - all 14000 emails or so. Until I sillilly (is that a word?) tried to add a second directv email account. Without a backup.

The account never showed up - so I closed and exited the system. I reentered netscape. No second account. I didn't think to stop it - it downloaded the email from the second account - about 8 emails. It was then I noticed that all the emails were gone.

The folder structure seems to be there.

Looking in the Mozilla directories two folders exist:

    C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\default\4cberyhj.slt\Mail\mail.directvinternet-1.com

    &

    C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\default\4cberyhj.slt\Mail\mail.directvinternet.com

(the second does not have the -1). The current (non functioning) settings points to the original file.

Now, the orginal folder has a dos name of mail~1 and the -1 has a name of mail~2. The original seems to have TONS of mail.

The -1 has only a couple of email messages. At first I could read them, but while they show in the inbox, they are blank..

    The netgmes@bellsouth.net works fine

On the second reboot of Netscape - the directv account no longer prompts for passwords or downloads mails. However, it can still SEND messages, although it can't put the copies in the Sent folder (and politely tells me so). Sent emails are received by the recipient.

I hope you can help me ms. wizard!

    Welcome to the Forum, Phydeaux!

    Hi Phydeaux,

My oh my, this sounds like a mell of a hess! You said the solution didn't work, and I'm wondering to which solution do you refer.

My first advice would be to delete the *.msf files for Inbox, in both directvinternet accounts. Only the Inbox.msf files, NOT the Inbox file with no extension.

This should fix your problem. If not, post back and we'll see what else can be done...

One question: did you create a unique Profile for each account?

    Ramona :D

(Sorry, I don't know what was the "Solution ")

My suggestion... back up your mails first.
Now, from Netscape 7 Mail, Edit | Mail & Newsgroups Account Settings
then under the account, click the "Server Settings ", and look at the lower right side, the "Local Directory ", does it point to the right folder?

If it does, and you still can't read any of your old mails...
    1. Tell us.
    2. Try to open the files (such as inbox (without extension)) with plain text editor (such as Notepad or UltraEdit). Do NOT use Word or Wordpad. If you can see the contents inside... if so, you can still recover the missing mails.

Please note that Win9x's Notepad can't handle files larger than 64kb. (WinNT or 2k/XP can)
