Hi I am really getting frustrated by the search engine facility within Win 7
is it just me or was xp better? i.e ( easier for the casual user)

    Anyway
    Example:
I want to search for a document called "Nikon.jpg "
I search and get bombarded with 1000's photos that happen to be taken on a nikon camera
So i assume it is searching properties not just names
what is the easiest way to filter just to names

    thanks
    dan

Use the command line. DIR only looks at file names.

Thanks BobK but My experience is "beginner" so what would I put in the Cmd line

I was under the impression that since micros' borrowed the windows idea from mac, the Idea was non computer users could function easily.
Is 3.01 style the way I now have to operate?

Sorry, didn't note your skill level..
I never use Windows to search for a file, there isn't as much control over it as
you have via the Command line.. (& I'm a very long time PC user, since DOS days - hard to give up the command line)

Start -> type CMD in the box
    You'll get a "C Prompt" that looks like this "C:> "
type in, next to the '>' "DIR NIKON.JPG /S "
    (without the quotes of course)

The '/S' says Search ALL FOLDERS (aka Directories)..
take note of the Folder name it is found in..

Leave the CMD line box, and do whatever..

    Danny,

I've never used Windows 7 and don't know in what way it differs from XP's search facility (which was never reliable anyway) but if you would like a powerful but simple file search application then I can recommend Agent Ransack.

Yea, Windows search has always been pretty lame.

But if I do a search on Nikon, yes I find all my pictures (taken with my Nikon camera). If however I search on Nikon.jpg I find nothing (because I have no such file name), so I'm not sure why your search would find all your pictures.
