    Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware (http://www.majorgeeks.com/Malwarebytes_Anti-Malware_d5756.html) to your desktop.

    * Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
    * At the end, be sure to checkmark the Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
    * If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
    * Download the update from here if you have problems.
    * Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan, then click Scan.
    * When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
    * Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
    * When completed, a log will open in Notepad.
    * Post the log back here.

    The log can also be found here:
    C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\log-date.txt
    Or at C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\log-date.txt

    Make sure that you restart the computer.

    ====

    Download HijackThis Executable from here. Save it to your desktop.
    Start HJT & press the "Do a system scan and save a log file" button. When the scan is finished a window will pop up giving you the option of where to save it. Save it to desktop where it is easy to access. Open the log file and then go to the format Tab and make sure that wordwrap is unchecked. Copy the entire contents of the file & paste it into the body of your post. DO NOT FIX ANYTHING YET. Most of what is there is necessary for the running of your system.

    Ok. You didn't update MBA-M as directed, nor did you post the Hijackthis log.
    I need you to go over the instructions again and post the logs please.

    Can you please do the following.

    ===============

    Can you disable Windows Defender as it may interfere with the removal process. Please leave it disabled until your PC has been given the all clear.
    • Open Windows Defender
    • Click Tools
    • Click General Settings
    • Scroll down to Real Time Protection Options
    • Uncheck Turn on Real Time Protection (recommended)
    • After you uncheck this, click on the Save button
    • Close Windows Defender

    ===============

    Scan with HijackThis and then place a check next to all the following, if present:

    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant =
    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,CustomizeSearch =
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyServer = http=127.0.0.1:5555

    O16 - DPF: {15589FA1-C456-11CE-BF01-00AA0055595A} - http://w4s2.work4sure.com/c/ge/w4sgeen9.exe

    O18 - Filter hijack: text/html - {a55cadc0-8a72-4886-a31e-98d6487250df} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\xwreg32.dll

    Now, close all instances of Internet Explorer and any other windows you have open except HiJackThis, click "Fix checked ".

    ===============

    Locate and delete the following item(s), if present. Make sure you are able to view system and hidden files/ folders:

    files...

    C:\WINDOWS\system32\xwreg32.dll

    -

    Note that some of these file(s)/folder(s) may or may not be present. If present, and cannot be deleted because they're 'in use', try deleting them in Safe Mode by doing the following:
    • Restart your computer
    • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
    • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear.
    Select the first option to run Windows in Safe Mode hit enter.

    -

    Reboot.

    ===============

    After rebooting, rescan with hijackthis and post back a new log. Please let me know how your pc is now.

    Ok. The file itself does not exist, but the registry entry is still there. Are you sure that you are;
    1/ Disabling Windows Defender? It is still running each time you post the log and I have asked that you keep it disabled until you are clear.

    2/When fixing with hijackthis, are you closing every instance of Internet Explorer first?

    ==

    Go here http://www.billsway.com/vbspage/ and download, unzip and run the Registry Search Tool.
    • Type xwreg32 in the dialog box.
    • Let it run and after a few minutes, a prompt will appear.
    • Click OK to write the results to Notepad and post them here.

    I shut down Windows Defender precisley as the instructions stated but I have secured ALL components and WD now seems to be completely disabled. Additionally, all instances of IE were indeed closed prior to performing HJT scans. The Registry Search Tool was downloaded and run with below results. My sincere apologies for making this more difficult. I truly appreciate all the help you've provided so far.

    Please back your Registry with ERUNT.
    Follow the link and scroll down to ERUNT and download it.
    http://aumha.org/freeware/freeware.php
    For the version with the Installer:
    Use the setup program to install ERUNT on your computer
    For the zipped version:
    Unzip all the files into a folder of your choice.
    Click Erunt.exe to backup your registry to the folder of your choice.

    Note: To restore your registry, go to the folder and start ERDNT.exe

    ====

    Download the attached zip file and unzip fixme.reg. Close all browser windows. Double click the file to run it and when asked if you want to merge with your registry, answer yes.
    Reboot when done and run Hijackthis again.

    Post the log please.

    At the moment, that 018 is just an empty entry and will not affect anything on the pc.
    Other than that, what progress have we made with your problem?

    At this juncture the problem with IE, i.e. IE7 not starting up after a TrojanDownloader was removed, appears to have been remedied and normal function seems to be restored. In essence, the problem looks to have been resolved. Many thanks to you and folks like you for what you do in the way of assisiting those of us who are occasionally confronted with a computer issue that causes much consternation.

    That's good to hear. There is one more thing I need you to do before we can give you the all clear.

    Please do an online scan with Kaspersky WebScanner

    It's best to disable real time protection applications as they sometimes interfere with the scan.

    Check this link for any applicable programs you may have (check under How to Temporarily Disable your Anti-virus).

    Click on Accept If your pop –up blocker blocks any windows from opening.

    Click Run on the window that opens.

    Windows Vista users you must open the web browser using the Run as Administrator command - accessible from the right-click menu from the browser shortcut.

    • The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files.
    • When completed, under Scan on the left side, click on My Computer.
    • This will start the scan of your system.
    • The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
    • Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
      • Click Report on the left side.
      • Click the Save Report button, and in the Save dialog box, type a name for the scan report file that you want to create and select its type as Text file. Click OK to save the file.
    • Copy and paste that information in your next post.

    Please post the Kaspersky results.
