I installed Windows Livemail, software as a means to send/receive Emails.
However, at each and every boot up of the computer, a small page is shown on screen [Messenger]. As I have no use for Messenger, other than each time to click on close, can the Messenger window be permanently stopped from being displayed?
Help to resolve stopping Messenger box being shown on the screen, will be most welcome. Thank your.

It is not displayed under programs installed. Still it must be somewhere, as the small page displays messenger. Thank you.

I have located the file msnmsgr.exe in C:\Program files (X86) Windows.
Clicking delete on this file produces an error "unable to delete file as it is being used by another program ".
I assume program is Windows Live Mail!

Hi.I'm new here but I might be able to help.Messenger is part of winows live essentials. When you download live it will load everything unless you do a custom install. If you uninstall live essentials and reinstall it when the program is installing it will show you what is being installed.Just uncheck the messenger box and it will not install. There are several programs it installs if you don't uncheck the boxes.Hope this helps.PS.If I'm not mistaken. You can just uninstall messenger by itself. When you click to uninstall live essentials it will give you a choice as to all live programs to uninstall.

You can uninstall it. Like Tilweh said, it's part of Windows Live Essentials. Click on that in add>remove programs and you'll be given the opportunity to repair or uninstall your choice of the Live Programs. Select uninstall, then Windows Live Messenger.

My thanks to Tilweh and Zander for their help.
Well, now thanks to carrying out the instructions, Messenger open window is no longer visible, allowing desktop icons to be displayed again.
    Thank you.

There's an additional family connection between Windows Live Messenger and one browser that I've discovered. We use MSN Explorer as our browser. It's a derivative of Internet Explorer that has been "optimized" (aka sc r ew e d up) for MSN Premium.

MSN Premium came as a freebie with our ISP and it works well enough for us (and it's half the price of other broadband ISPs, though slower) that we're not planning to change it.

What I did discover is that MSN Explorer won't run unless Windows Live is up and running. I was trying to stop the repeated messages when the second computer on my network fired up and blew the first one off Messenger.

I solved that with the latest Messenger, which allows multiple computers on one account.

If you're running MSN Explorer, Windows Live Messenger can't be disabled, as far as I've been able to determine.

There is a selectable feature somewhere that says "show the Windows Live Messenger at start-up" which you can click off. Unfortunately for me, starting MSN Explorer wasn't considered "Startup ".

It's been a while since I found it and I can't remember for sure where it is. I think it's in Live Messenger Options.
