Resolved PDFs won't print low-contrast parts

Not sure whether this is a hardware or software problem... I'm running an HP Officejet 5610 which prints everything fine except for PDF documents. On these, it prints only the high-contrast parts, while anything with a lower contrast or in very small typeface just does not appear at all. For example, my last telephone invoice (which I want to annotate with red marker and show my family ) will show the letterhead and section headings (local, long-distance, international, etc.), but the individual calls listed, which are in a pretty small typeface, do not print at all.

I've tried adjusting the settings of the printer to "top quality ", "heavy volume of ink ", etc. (my system's in Italian, so I don't have the exact wording), but the only effect this has had is to slow the printing process right down to snail pace, and the small print still doesn't appear. Not even faintly.

Repeat - this happens only with PDFs. Grateful for any advice.

Let us know what PDF application you have (there may be adjustable settings in that) also, have you tried another PDF reader?

Hi Wildfire - sorry, I'd just realised I hadn't specified the app, and was about to edit and add, but you got there first. I've tried all the settings I can find in Foxit, but without success.

    I'm using Foxit Reader v. 3.1.2.

It's at least 3.1.4 now (that's the version I'm using). Perhaps updating is worthwhile.

Anyway, long shot but worth a try,

Tools->Preferences->General and tick "Print texts as graphics (ignore font substitution) "

Let us know how you get on.

Forgive me - a typo. Yes, I am using 3.1.4.

Your long shot worked. I hadn't discovered that option (or maybe saw it but didn't realise the significance). Yes, that worked. I can now rage at my family about the phone bills and show them the proof.

I hope this might be useful to any other user with the same problem.

Best regards and thanks again for rapid and effective advice!
