    Hi guys and gals,
I have a problem with my LifeCam VX-3000.
I am running Windows 7 Ultimate x64 and it is running well and is very stable.

However despite trying every recommended fix on Microsofts support page I cannot install my Webcam. The software (Lifecam3.0.exe) seems to install well but when it asks me to plug in my webcam the system attempts to install then I get an error message saying it has failed to install.

On clicking the error message it says my webcam is blocked. Opening the webcam software tells me that a camera is not installed. The help files just tell me to reconnect or reboot, all of which I've tried.

I've tried updating via device manager and browsing to the Lifecam folder but that also fails.

In my alternate boot XP Pro the webcam works fine, so it is a Win 7 issue.

    Could anyone offer a solution?

Did you download the Windows 7 driver?

I had no trouble installing the driver for my VX-6000.

Yes indeed Lifecam3.0.exe from microsofts website.
Supposedly for 32 bit and 64 bit.

As part of the process it says it installs Live essentials but I already had that installed. Do you think that could be the problem?

    No, I don't think so.

I would uninstall the software & try again, but right-click the installer and select Run as administrator.

I have un-installed and re-installed a couple of times but not as Administrator.
    OK, it's worth a try.

    Thanks.

Well I removed software, unplugged my camera, rebooted then re-installed as administrator.
I'm afraid it made no difference whatsoever. I still get the error message saying that my device was not installed correctly.

I uninstalled the device and driver in device manager and then uplugged and plugged back in then tried driver update again. It appears to be downloading and installing but then this. http://themoddingscene.com/imagehost/images/21154210818123792790.jpg

    IDK???

The only other things I can think of is:

    1. Download/Install the latest USB drivers from your motherboard vendor
    2. Make sure you have the latest BIOS

I just installed another version of Windows 7 but 32 bit on another partition (30 day trial only) and my webcam installed like a charm so it is not the USB driver or BIOS.

It has to be something to do with the 64 bit system although I have not disabled any services at all.

Well, as you can see from my systems specs, I'm running 64-bit Windows 7, and no problems here with my VX-6000. Both our camera's use the same software.

In that case I have no idea why or what is blocking installation of my webcam.
Is there anything I can check in the registry that you know of?

1st I would make sure you have the latest BIOS installed.

Another check you can perform is to create a new user account & see if the software would install there.

I have never updated the BIOS and am unsure of the procedure and I don't quite follow the logic when the same BIOS is ok on another installation.
I will try another user account but if it installs ok then, what does that tell me?

Because a 64-bit OS will be addressing your hardware differently than the 32-bit version.

If a new account works it confirms that it's probably some problem with the user account in question.

Well I created a new user account with admin rights then logged off of my usual account and logged in to the new one.
The result was exactly the same.

I'm not sure on what to do to update BIOS so I will need to do some research.
TBH I have my doubts that it is the issue but I'm running out of options.

A BIOS update & maybe reinstalling USB drivers (in the 64-bit Windows) are about the last things to check.

I would also check the GIGABYTE Forum to see if there are any other reports with this MB and Win7-64

    Hi Arie,

I have not had much chance to play around with my PC over the weekend so did not update the BIOS.
This morning when I booted up there was a message on the desktop at start up telling me that Windows was updating my webcam driver. Now bear in mind that I had tried allowing Windows update to install any and all updates including optional and it had always failed with the VX-3000 driver.
However, this time it installed successfully for some reason. Possibly Microsoft have carried out a revision for the driver IDK and it has solved my issue. I assure you I had not carried out any other changes.

Anyway, all is well that ends well I guess but it mystifies me why I had so much trouble.

Again, thank you for all your efforts to help.

    golfnut.
