I have a basic home LAN that previously worked when I had XP on installed on both computers. I could for instance print from my laptop and synchronize files between the 2 PCs. (The connections are both wired and wireless)

I tried a few guides on this site, but it didn't get the system going again. This was one that I tried:
    http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-7/share-files-and-printers-between-windows-7-and-xp/

This is my current set up:

These are my settings on the laptop- it previously showed the desktop as well.

This is the Desktop, with Windows 7. From what I have read, One should be able to see the laptop now:

    Any advice please?

    Thanks
    Albie

In your ScreenShot002.jpg, a Homegroup is showing. The diagram jpg shows the laptop as running XP, but the Homegroup feature requires all computers to be running Windows 7.

I’m not running Homegroup as I have a mix of machines but it would appear that one can right-click Homegroup in Computer and change the settings, i.e. turn it off/disable it.

I think I am making progress!

For the time being, I have disabled the firewalls, can later reconfigure them.

So it seems as if they can see each other.

My basic requirements are twofold: To synchronize data and to use my printers from my laptop.

It looks as if the Oki is installed, but I will need to get the HP 5610 going (Installation CDs not working)

Thanks for your help- this site is awesome. I have posted under Windows 7 my problems with Word as well

    Regards
    Albie

Here are a couple of ‘straw-clutchers’ for you to ponder:

    1. Your network name is Network. I doubt it but could this be a reserved word or have you used it before?

    2. Are you running Norton by any chance?

    1. I do not think I have used it before.
    2. I run AVG 9 and tried to disable it yesterday, but it is a bit of a struggle.

What I'll do first is to make sure the printers work from the desktop- I had some issues with the drivers.

    Will get back to you
