OK, I know... you have multiple PC's. But for this poll lets agree that:

    • We look at the hard disk space on the PC you use on a daily basis
    • You may 'cheat' in that you count space on external drives that you regularly connect to your PC
    • If you use NAS or other types of 'centralized' storage.... be our guest, count that too :D

    I guess that covers it.

102 GB between my 80 GB master drive and the temporary 30 GB slave. I don't need much space.

738GB internal, 750GB eSata external & 670GB NAS... makes 2.1TB. Made a mistake before by counting the free space on my NAS (222GB).

From my 2 internal drives I have:

    40% free from 273GB
    18% free from 465GB

Work in progress - drive storage for my computer, WHS server, 2x externals/eSata's and 1x USB external ...

    • 4TB = (2x) 2TB HDD's
    • 1.5TB = (2x) 750GB HDD's
    • 300 GB = (1x) Velociraptor HDD
    • 200GB = (1x) 200GB HDD
    • 80GB = 1x Intel SSD - 2nd Gen.
    =====================
    • 6TB = Total
When above completed, home network will consist of 3 desktops, 2 notebooks, running w7/64 bit (except my netbook at 32bit) and WHS server. Network links at 1GB Ethernet/Cat 6 and N-draft/300Mbps Wifi. Above storage will include disaster backup files for 3 additional notebooks (3x of my kids in school/living away from home).

This gets complicated, because I use both my desktop and my laptop, which are networked together, on a daily basis.

My desktop has two 200GB internal drives and my laptop has 250GB internal. The two computers share a 500GB external drive that I switch between them when necessary, using a switchbox.

When I'm away from home with the laptop I use a 250GB 2.5" external drive.

I've got a couple of 400 gig internal drives and two 750 gig external drives (that are pretty much always connected to the pc). The 400s will probably be replaced in the near future (not sure what I'll get yet :D).

My laptop has a 320 gig (7200 rpm) drive... Sweet!!

I've got around 4.25 TB capacity, 2+ TB free on 5 drives. 2 of the drives are 1 TB each used for backup only. I used to run them as RAID, but ran out of space.

The biggest group of files is 5 years of photos and videos of my grandson! It's almost 50 GB.

I've got 1 TB RAID in NAS used only for the family members on our network. I do all their backups, desktops and notebooks, from my desktop with Retrospect.

I'm not surprised at the 1 TB and over numbers, but at those under 1 TB. I think that you can buy a 1 TB drive for $90 or less.

I can remember paying $600 for a 200 MB drive for home use and before that $1500 for a 5 MB drive for a project at work using an IBM PC. That was before IBM introduced PCs with hard drives. We designed our own disc controller.

I remember my first Buffalo Tera-station cost me close to 1200.00, and I thought that was a steal. I ended up selling it not even a year later since it was just not practical for me! And now like you were stating, you can find them for under $100.00. Price of technology amazes me! I cant wait to see what will be around 20 years from now!
