I am using Outlook 2003. I have two email accounts A@A.com and B@B.com. I’ve been using Outlook for years with the A@A.com address. I just recently added the B@B.com address. I’ve figured out how to set which email account an email will be sent from, so the receiver will see A@A.com or B@B.com, depending on which email account I select. My problem is, when someone replies to an email from B@B.com, the incoming email is forced into the A@A.com email account. If I reply back, then the reply will come from A@A.com!

If I send an email from a third account to B@B.com, it is also forced into the A@A.com account.

This causes me two problems. One, I can’t easily reply to people with the correct B@B.com address. Two, I can’t use rules to sort my emails based on which email account they are involved with because every email is in the A@A.com email account.

    Any ideas?

    Welcome to WindowsBBS;)

I have two accounts but nut this issue.
Edit the account B@B and EVERYTHING in there needs to reflect B@B

    YOUR NAME
    E-Mail Address

    Click the More Setting Button:
The General Tab-> All three need to say B@B or there a bouts. I'm guessing you have the "Reply E-Mail" set incorrectly.

Repeat all of this for the other account.

Unfortunately, I think you will need to use your web host control panel and use web mail instead of Outlook. Or, you could use Outlook for one account and Outlook Express for another.

Steve - I just checked - the "Reply E-mail" field for B@B.com was already set to B@B.com. The "E-Mail Address" field is also set to B@B.com.

I'm not sure that this is the right area to be looking at because I experience the problem even when I send an email from a third email account (C@gmail.com) to B@B.com. Outlook assigns the email to the A@A.com email account. There are two ways I know this is happening. One, if I hit reply, Outlook will use the A@A.com signature. Two, I added a field to the inbox that lists the E-mail Account associated with each email and I can see it is A@A.com.

Maybe, we should just focus on figuring out how to assign an incoming email to the correct email account. If that works then I think the reply part of my problem will figure itself out.

Below, I've pasted the headers for two emails that I sent from my C@gmail.com account to the two accounts in outlook. I've underlined the only thing that jumps out at me as strange in the second header. It says that the email is received for the A.com domain even though the email was sent to B@B.com. Could this be part of the problem?

Next, I am going to paste information found by double clicking on the name in the To: field of each of the emails above. This brings up the Properties dialog. The following information is on the "E-Mail Addresses" tab:

    SMTP:A@A.com
    X400:c=US;a= ;p=BELECT;o=Exchange;s=LastName;g=FirstName;
    smtp:A@A.local
    smtp:B@B.com

I really think that my problem has something to do with this. This information is the same for both emails, even though the emails were sent to two different addresses!!

    Any ideas?

Bacon7 - I am pretty sure that Outlook can handle this. My understanding is that most people are able to have multiple email accounts and then use rules for sorting their emails into appropriate folders based on which email account an email is from. Thanks though!

Also, we are using Microsoft Exchange Server. Does that bit of info make any bells ring?

    Thanks!
