I have recently bought a new computer that comes with Outlook; also on this computer is my old program Outlook Express, which came over when I migrated all the software. The new computer defaults to Outlook, which is no big deal since I've been told this is a better program than Outlook Express. Is that true?
Secondly - I've been trying to import my address book from Express into Outlook without success; tried also the export from Express into Outlook but could not figure this out. Help!

Thanks. That didn't help with moving the address book from Express into Outlook.

deanst2--Looks like you need to find out how to import the .wab file (or a word editor file of it) into Outlook's Address Book file. Does Outlook's Help not offer anything?
    Possibly some help here
    http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=Outlook+"address+book"&btnG=Google+Search

Sorry I cannot offer any more suggestions since I do not have Outlook.
BTW--I do not know how you reacted to the differences between Outlook and OE, but most people seem to think OE is all they need, unless they require the unique features in Outlook.

deanst2--I have seen several references that say when you Export your .wab file from OE you should export in a "Comma Separated Values (.CSV file type) format ". That is supposed to be a more acceptable format for many folders to which you may import. I have no clue whether this helps with importing to Outlook.
You accomplish this from OE's main window's File|Export|Address Book.
Now, as far as importing into OE, once again, I do not know the file type of Outlook's Address Book. If .CSV is available, you might try it. Also here is a reference to a helpful site on all things Outlook Express.
    http://www.tomsterdam.com/insideOE/sitemap.htm
And finally, I assume that you are not using a .wab file that you have backed up to something like a CD. When you do that, the attribute is automatically changed to "Read-only ". You have to uncheck that before you can access the file.
Were you able to export your OE email folders successfully to Outlook?

    Same Question only later

My question is the same. Has anybody found the answer yet?
I want to use Outlook because it allows me to use Word and the text editor and all the shortcuts for formatting and editing.

The problem is that the Wizard in Outlook completely ignores Outlook Express and forces a manual browse. This monster's too big for me understand where everything is.

I just want to put the old information into a new application. You'd think that a computer that can tell me what happened on a given day would do that.

    Wouldn't you?

    Rescued

Brett's reply is good for anyone with this question. Thanks, Brett.

The link goes to all kinds of information and I found three references to OE. While I haven't done it yet, this is the the answer to the question.

Basically -- and I wish I knew why -- it takes an intermediate step to do the import/export. I would expect a wizard to do that automatically.

    OK. Now what?

 It's no fun being an administrator and stupid too.

Using the info above I now have Outlook looking just like my Express. Trouble is I have to connect via a profile description that includes a mailbox location -- probably because Outlook is an Office application and intended for an internal group.

But I'm just a two-computer LAN and can't find information to identify the server, which is outside the LAN (Comcast.net) The help files all tell me to ask (myself.)
