Just bought a new hp printer. Not sure if this is the right forum but anyway. I installed the printer on my desktop. Everything is working there. I then tried to add the printer to my laptop as a shared network printer. My laptop cant find the printer and Im not sure I know how to find it using the tcp/ip method....even if I did know the ip of the printer. Could anyone give me some suggestions as to what to do? Thanks for the help!

Start> Network> Network & Sharing Center> turn on Printer Sharing.

Please enter your system specs in your users cp. More details, better answers.

Sorry, ok like I said printer is working fine and printer sharing is turned on. The printer is connected to my desktop and I want to print from my laptop. The desktop is running xp home and the laptop is running vista home premium 64bit. I also installed the software that came with the printer on the laptop as well...the disk said the driver was compatible with vista. I ran the add printer wizard on the laptop and couldnt find the new printer. I tried adding the printer using the \\server\printer\printername method but doesnt seem to work, As I said I may not be doing that correctly. I thought if I could add the printer using the tcp/ip method it may work, but I'm not sure how to find the tcp/ip information on the printer. So my question is what should I do to get this printer working on my laptop.

    \\server\printer\printername should be \\servername\printernamme

yes I tried that as well....when I go to my network places on my laptop, the name of the only computer on the network is "Teed-pc" and the name of my router "lynksys" ...the name of my shared printer is HPPhotos....so I tried \\Teed-pc\HPPhotos...I tried \\Teed-pc\HP C4480\HPPhotos...I also tried \\Teed-pc\HP Photosmart C4480\HPPhotos...neither worked

when I do the add printer wizard and choose "add wireless printer" option it finds my old printer. I looked at the server name and it was in the format of "\\Teed-pc\Hp Deskjet D1400 series(copy 1)

so I tried to use the same format when trying to add this new printer as well.

ok got the answer from online chat with a tech support at HP. He had me run a search in vista for the ip address of the host pc with the printer name as well.....i.e
\\192.167.5.4\HPPhotos and vista finally found it....why cant the add printer wizard do that exact thing!
