It seems that a lot of users have not taken advantage of the repair aid offered in Windows 7, or have overlooked it during installation, but it is not too late!

Go to Control Panel > Back-up and Restore > Select 'Create a System repair disc' and follow the instructions to burn a repair CD.

If you have problems starting, boot from the Repair disc:

Windows will load files, ask for your keyboard layout, and locate your Windows installation.

    The next window is:
System Recovery Options and you are presented with two options:

    1. "Use recovery tools that can help fix problems starting Windows . . . "

    2. "Restore using an image "

Under the first option you are offered:

    Start-up Repair
    System Restore
    System Image Recovery
    Windows Memory Diagnostic
    Command Prompt

Command prompt only opens the command dialogue box so you should have the required commands to hand when you start, eg, chkdsk, SFC /scannow, diskmgmt.msc. At any time you can type HELP for a list of available commands.

I hope that helps somebody one day.

    Roger;)

    Thanks for the info r.leale.
Have Acronis images of daughter's w7, never needed to use them, yet. Always nice to have a redundant backup system.
So I created w7 Repair boot disk. Is this disk "Unique" to this computer??
Created a w7 authored Image backup (manually).
Can w7 image backup's be set to automatic?

    Hi Dennis,
Pretty sure that it is not tied to your computer, in fact I think it is just a compilation of commands, eg sys restore.

Windows 7 backups can be scheduled to a time, a set of folders, a complete image, and a location, that suits you.

Just to confirm Dennis, the disc is not tied to the machine that makes it. The disc that I made on my main machine booted my Acer laptop OK, and the tools were available.
