    Hi All:

Wife's HP Laptop, Intel dual core 2.ghz, 2gig memory with Vista home premium.

Can only get 12Mbps max transfer between machine and external hard drives.

Dosen't matter if connected directly to computer port or hub.

SATA HDD in Nextstar dock and IDE drive in Nexstar enclosure.

Tried different ports on laptop and different USB2 hubs, no help.

Theoretical 400+mbs? What kind of speeds are normal?

Thanks for any help, You take care.

    Martin

    Hi Martin,

How are you measuring the speed (what program)?

The dock and enclosure have their own power supply?

I suppose you have checked and timed the drives on another computer.

Look in Device Manager if any problems are listed. You can uninstall any controllers under the heading Universal Serial Bus Controllers, they will be automatically reinstalled when you restart.

Look for an Intel INF update at the HP website. If you can't see one, was there a drivers disk supplied with the laptop?

Did the laptop come with Vista installed, it wasn't upgraded from XP?

    Matt

I think your 12Mbps is quite normal. I have long ago abandoned USB 2.0 for my external drive, I use eSata.
