    Hello,

Sure looks like a great Forum.
Am in my 70's now, and I guess this doesn't get any easier with age.
Would sure appreciate some help with this.

Using Thunderbird, Windows 7 and Comcast for internet.

Tried, several time, talking with Comcast, but it is really an exercise in futility.

Have Thunderbird vers 3 working, sort of.
But, lots of glitches, and what I think is possibly my not configuring it perfectly for Comcast.

So, for anyone using Comcast (I'm outside of Boston) with Thunderbird, may I please ask the following:

    a. What is the incoming PORT No. you use ?
    b. It's a POP, right ?

    c. What is the Outgoing PORT No. ?
    d. It's SMTP, right ?

    e. Have read all sorts of contradictory info on this:

For the incoming POP: Do I click the "use" buttons for
    1. "Use Secure Authentication" ? (now is Not-Checked)
    2. What about: Connectivity Security ? (Now says "NONE ")

    f. For the outgoing SMTP:
    1. do I check the box for: Secure Authentication ? (now on "NO ")
    2. what about Connection Security ? (Now says "NONE ")

The main problem I have is that I can send Attachments that are text just fine, but cannot send any Attachments that are shortcuts to web pages with pictures. Can receive them fine, though, if someone send to me ?

Realize these are a lot of questions, but if anyone can list all their settings for me, and perhaps answer some of my specifics, would be most appreciative.

    Thanks,
    Bob

Thankfully, I don't have Comcast, but I would expect that shortcuts to webpages would not be sent as attachments, but rather as links.
for this page, I do this, i.e. etc.
I don't want to give more than the above, because I would create another link, so after the http, put in a description, and then close it the link. I will give an example of what I do.
I don't know if pictures may be a problem, but if receive them, you should be able to send the link.

To avoid getting another link, finish with [/url]. I hope that this is not totally confusing.

I always thought in email the link would work with out the http:// part and all that was necessary was to put in something like this:... www.raysmyth.net

    My 2 cents, Ray

To stop a URL from turning into a link in a post, don't use the "Quick Reply. "

When you click the Post Reply, below where you type your post are Additional Options where you can uncheck "Automatically parse links in text." URLs will not appear as links in the posted reply.

Actually you can do away with the "www" and just type in raysmyth.net
