    Hello,
I've installed Windows 7 and as everybody knows: there is no default mail programm.
I used a trick to get good Windows Mail out of Vista to work in Windows 7. You can find it here::)
    http://www.mydigitallife.info/2009/06/05/download-windows-mail-from-vista-for-use-in-windows-7/

Basically remove the Windows Mail directory in Program Files and replace it with the Windows Mail directory out of Vista. (you need unlocker to do this).
To set this mailclient as default.you will need the reg keys that are in the comments in the mentioned tread at mydigitallife.

    Two problems remained however
When clicking a hyperlink in IE with the "mailto" command attached outlook opens in stead of windows mail.
That I was able to fix as well with some info from Microsoft:
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa753633(VS.85).aspx#_Adding_Email_Client

In my registry with the mailto command I have the following:
In the command line I have put:
    "C:\Program Files\Windows Mail\WinMail.exe "-c IPM.Note "%1" "
    and in the DefaultIcon line:
    "C:\Program Files\Windows Mail\WinMail.exe ",7

The only problem that remains is that when Windows Mail is opened no email adress is put in the "To" box.
Windows Mail opens, but that is it. There is no "new message" opened with the mailadress put in the to box.
Any suggestions how to fix this??

    Thanks!!

I doubt we'll be able to fix this. WM wasn't intended to work on Win7, just use WLM.

    Hello Arie,

    Thanks for your reply.
I have tried windows live mail, but as far as I could see, I was unable to create 1 sent items box for all my mail accounts (6) and also could not create folders in which mail from different accounts is grouped.

Also I don't like the layout that on each account ALL folders are displayed, like inbox, concepts, trash, unwanted, and sent.
This way your screen gets really clogged with 6 accounts. I don't have that problem with windows mail from vista.
Am I wrong here or are there ways to prevent this?
    Thanks,

    Jaja

Sorry, I've never touched WLM, so someone else would need to fill you in on that one. I've been using Outlook for years.
