ip tracing

    i have a situation where someone on yahoo chat is lets say threathening me in saying that she can see who i chat with what my archieves are can see inside my computer which i really doubt on this one i have pretty good protection on my systems.

    but what im wondering is is there a way to find the ip address and where that address is coming from when chatting with someone on yahoo messenger ??? my guess is if i was using a unix or linux then maybe but can it be done on a pc. ??? greg

    There may be ways and means but they won't be posted here.

    Best bet is to block her and ignore what she's already posted. FWIW anyone likely to cyberattack you is hardly likely to let you know beforehand.

    what i wanted to be able to do is to see if she really is doing what she says she is. i do watch my dlink router and it doesnt show anything except myself and my other machines being connected plus i do have very good protection on my network.

    she wanted me to help her bring down web sites and when i told her i would never do that and besides i had no idea how to do it anyway she didnt believe me and thats when she started to say how she knew my ip address and all the other things.

    No, you won't be able to do that. The connection will just point you to Yahoo's messenger server. Messenger programs are not direct connections. You log into the server & connections are made there. The only one who could give you that information (and won't) is Yahoo.

    They would give out this information only to law enforcement when there's a court order for them to do so.
