Hello folks. I haven't had any trouble in a while so I guess this makes up for it. I missed scanning some programs I downloaded and when I installed them I soon had all kinds of problems. I use AVG 6.0 virus scanner and it stopped working (corrupt file). Soon other programs developed problems. I uninstalled AVG and reinstalled a fresh copy with updates. When I ran the scanner it identified the virus as WIN32/Parite. As the scanner ran it looked like every program file was corrupt. Most files were put into a volt because they could not be healed but the rest were system necessary. I can turn on the computer and get my desktop but of course I can't run anything. I am kind of at a loss as to what to do next.

    OS: WIN 98 SE
    Processor: PIII 1 GIG Hz
    RAM: 512 Mb SD
    Board: PCchips M758LMR+

Main HD: WD 20 gig (2 ten gig partitions C, E)
Second HD: WD 80 gig (on promise ata 100 controler D)

I have video and audio files on the D and E drives I would like to salvage. Is this possible or should I just write them off and reformat? Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    D. E.

Thanks Newt. I may give this a try. Earlier I contacted Grisoft (AVG) and received a reply just recently. I was given instructions to remove virus in DOS mode using AVG. I'll give this a try and if it doesn't work I'll try your link.

    Thanks again,

    D. E.
