Are these two programs actually the same? Immunet can run alongside of another program such as Avast and some other AV programs. So not sure of it.

Two AV programs shouldn't be installed on one computer. Period.

Don't agree in this case as Immunet is advertised that it can. Check this out, it is a cloud program.

I only voiced my point of view.
It's your computer and you can run on it whatever you want.

    Hi Dakota
I have "others" looking at this also so I'll let you know what they say.
Some things to look at are... Note the bolded below,

    http://www.thetechherald.com/article.php/200935/4294/Review-Immunet-Protect

As it stands now, Immunet Protect is a beta product. To use the full weight of the community options, you will need to register for an account and wait for it to be activated. According to an email from Immunet, they are “making the product available in batches” and new users are activated each week. However, while this is a setback, as you cannot instantly use the community benefits, it does not affect the level of cloud-based and community-based protections that Immunet Protect offers by design.

This site hosts a Rogue anti-Virus application. At first the site was allowed to display warnings and fake alerts about infection, but when the application attempted to load, AVG blocked the installation. Removal required a reboot. Immunet Protect was inactive during the loading and processing of the site. As with previous URLs, AVG simply acted first.

When running alone, Immunet Protect allowed the “Total Security” Rogue anti-Virus to install completely. At no point did it attempt to block the installation of the application. Once installed, a scan was launched with Immunet Protect, to see if any processes were reported back as malicious. The scan lasted over 2 minutes and detected nothing.

While it performed fine on its own, Immunet Protect should really be used in conjunction with another rounded security offering.

However, like any layer of defense, you must use Immunet Protect as recommended. While it will block a good deal of threats on its own, it is no replacement for a full fledged anti-Virus product.

No. Different companies, different software, similar technology. Panda also has a similar cloud antivirus product in beta.

Many software vendors say that their products work side by side with other products. My experience is that they say that so as to not discourage use of their products, and experience also tells me that running more than one antivirus program at the same time leads to other potential problems.

In many cases though it is safe to run antispyware programs simultaneously, but again this poses some potential for conflict and issue.

    Dakota & All,

Immunet Protect (Beta) is a different program than Microsoft Security Essentials. It is a cloud based anti-virus product which is in beta right now. In its beta state we generally suggest people run it along side other Anti-Virus for now as a 'Companion' for additive protection. Our goal once we exit beta is to eventually be a full blown AV choice.

We do test rigorously alongside Microsoft Security Essentials and thousands of our users use the two side by side quite effectively. You can see our whole list of supported products on our Wiki at:

    support.immunet.com/

You can also visit our community forum and blog at:

    community.immunet.com
    blog.immunet.com

Right now our beta community is at about 51,000 active people, please free to join us!

You can learn more about the product at:

    Cheers,
    al
