For several months now my laptop suffers from random and unexpected opening up of Live Mail and before that Outlook Express. When working with any other programme there is an interruption as Mail opens up of its own accord. The problem may not occur for several days but will then repeatedly open up when either closing Mail or minimizing it. The openings are not related to the receiving of new mail. I have scanned the laptop with Norton and Spybot and both report that there are no viruses present. Also when the laptop is at idle the hour glass appears and up pops Live Mail. Whilst writing these notes there has been approximately 30 instances of the problem. Help please!

Here is something you might want to check:

Start -> Set Program access and Default.
    Click on Custom
    Under Choose Default e-mail program:
Click on Outlook Express and Press OK.

If you do not see the "Set Program access and Default" when you click on start.
Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Add or Remove Programs.
Then you will see the "Set Program access and Default" on the bottom left side.
    Open it and then
    Click on Custom
    Under Choose Default e-mail program:
Click on Outlook Express and Press OK.

Have tried the fix and selected Outlook Express in Custom settings of 'Set Programme access and default' but the problem is still happening. As stated earlier it is random and OE has fired up several times on its own. At the moment it is not happening. Any other suggestions!

Open IE - click on Tools -> Internet Options.
On the General Tab under Browsing History - press Delete and then Press Delete All.
This will remove the cache from IE.

Also go to the Programs Tab. To the left - you will see E-mail: with a down arrow.
Click on the down arrow and choose Outlook Express. Press Apply. Then Press OK.

If Outlook Express is already showing, then select another e-mail and then select Outlook Express again and this will activate the Apply button. Press Apply and then OK.

Have followed your instructions in IE and deleted Browsing History the next sceen did not provide a Delete All option but was a screen with the following titles 'Preserve favorites website data, Temporary Internet files, Cookies, History, Form Data, Password, InPrivate Filtering Data'. I deleted all. I then had to select another e-mail as OE was already selected, I applied Mail then selected OE and applied this again. Unfortunately the problem is still with me. I have just had a 10 minute period when it was impossible to use the PC as OE was constantly opening up on its own, but as I am writing these notes it appears to have stopped. But for how long! Any other thoughts
