I'm on a Win98 hard drive with 3 MB of space left (6 MB) and I just bought XP & OffcXP. I want to swap the old hard drive for a new bigger one and put XP&Offc XP on the new hard drive.

Okay, how hard will this be?
I'll put the Win98 HD in another computer.

Can I just swap the Win98 HD for the new HD or is there something more complicated; like the BIOS?

Next question: How do I find out the brand & speed of my current hard drive. Went to properties and couldn't find it. I know it's a Western Digital, but don't know much more about it.

    Sal_gal,
You've got interesting times ahead if this is the way you want to go.
Moving an existing HD to another machine is possible and can actually work fine, but there is a greater likelyhood of problems. You see, the current HD has system information and hardware settings in software pertaining to your existing hardware and motherboard that are going to be different on another machine. You really should look at backing up files/documents as well as favourites etc, etc and reformating the existing HD BEFORE moving it to another machine. Then partition the drive and reinstall Windows 98.
If you don't want to reformat then you should delete EVERYTHING you are able to in the device manager on the current system which will delete most of the software information on your harddrive pertaining to your existing hardware and motherboard. When you then install this drive on another machine these deleted components will be reinstalled. But you will need the Win 98 installation disk and probably need to reinstall some or all of your hardware drivers, many of which will be years out of date from the 98 disk, so you will need the latest drivers from the manufacturers site.

    New HD and XP...
Before you head down the path of a new HD and XP you need to meet at least minimal requirements and preferably exceed them before loading XP. Minimum requirements are loosly a Pentium class or equivelant processor running a 350 or greater megahertz,
128 MB Ram, preferably 256 or greater. Also all your hardware will need to be XP compatible. So you'll have to establish this before taking the plunge.
Depending on the size of the new HD you buy you'll also need to makesure your motherboard will recognise it. A BIOS update is usually reccommended in these cases as well.

This is just the beginning... :)

I'll take it to the computer shop!

I don't want to muck it up, so I'll take everything into the computer shop down the street.

As a suggestion, you might be better off and spend the same or less money getting a new PC that is built to handle XP. You can get one fairly cheaply if you go for one with no OS pre-loaded or else get one with XP-home preloaded and install your copy of office.

Then you could keep the existing 98 system and network the two PCs together. Access to all your older stuff, a spare PC just in case (and with the new one, you can probably transfer or delete enough stuff off the old one to free up the system.

If you later decide the 98 PC is just taking up space, easy enough to donate it to a boys&girls club or similar.
