    Netscape 7 seems to be worse than the earlier versions for pop-up ads. Anyone know if there is a way to avoid these?

    Thank you, but . . .

    Thanx for responding, Indmusic. No, I haven't tried that; have you? I did go to the web site, but because I don't know the author, I thought I'd better check back with you first.

    oh ya. Used it and it worked for me
    Just make sure that under your browser
    screen that you uncheck open unrequested windows.
    Sorry that would be at Edit-Preferences-
    Advanced-Scripts and Plugins

    Uh-oh, you lost me, Indmusic

    Well, I clicked on the "Restore" and then got totally out of Netscape (didn't restart my computer --- should I have?). When I went back into Netscape, I went to Edit-Preferences-Advanced, but I don't see Scripts and Plugins there. A little more help, please.

    Hi aks,

    When you installed "Restore" from Holger Metzger's site, did you enable "Software Installation" in Preferences?
    Edit|Preferences|Advanced|Software Installation
    Unless this is enabled, the "Restore" options would not have been installed. You should have seen a window during the install, and then a "Success" message at the end. Did you experience this?

    Once you have installed the addons, it is necessary to close and restart Netscape, but not necessary to reboot your PC.

    I would not install adblocker.xpi until you are certain whether or not the "Restore" addons are in place. Do a "Find" for aaa.js. If "Restore" was installed, the scripts will be listed in this file. The file can be opened in Notepad.

    Let us know...

    "Restore" from H. Metzger's site

    Ramona, thank you for offering to help.
    1) Yes, I did find aaa.js and opened a window with "Script: C:\Program
    Files\Netscape\Netscape\defaults\preferences\aaa.js. "

    2) No, I didn't see any window during install, which seemed odd to me at the time.

    3) When I go to Edit - Preferences - Advanced, all I see there to check are Enable Java, XSLT, and Enable Quick Launch.

    In spite of all this confusion on my part, I have not seen any pop-up ads from Netscape since I did that install, though. Perhaps all this is a moot point?

    Hi aks,

    If you have the aaa.js file, and these entries:

    pref( "imageblocker.enabled ", true);
    pref( "javascript.allow.mailnews ", false);
    pref( "browser.popupdisablingUI.enabled ",true);
    pref( "network.cookie.disableCookieForMailNews ", true);
    pref( "browser.registration.enable ", false);
    pref( "mail.display_struct ", true);
    pref( "mailnews.message_display.allow.plugins ", false);
    pref( "mailnews.message_display.disable_remote_image ", true);
    pref( "mailnews.fakeaccount.show ", false);
    pref( "network.http.sendRefererHeader ", 1);

    Then "Restore" was installed. ;)

    You need to look a bit further in Preferences:
    Edit|Preferences|Advanced|Software Installation

    Yes, it is a moot point if the files are in place.

    Let us know if you have further questions.

    Ramona, maybe it's not a moot point, after all. I got one of those pop-up ads this afternoon.

    In the aaa.js file, all I get is that window that pops up with what I mentionned before. Nothing else. As for all those entries you mentonned, I can't get beyond that window and its OK button.

    Edit-- preference --- advanced gets me to just what I said before, as well. There is no "Software Installation" there. What could I be doing wrong?

    Oh boy, please forgive me, Ramona. I just did the "Restore" again and this time I saw the "Success." It was prob there before but it was so quick, I must have looked away for a second.

    Ok, and I was able to open the aaa.js file in Notepad (rather than double clicking on it as I was doing), and those pref files are there.

    I still see no Software Installation in Edit--preferences---advanced, however, and you have me curious about that.
    Thanks for your help.

    aks,

    Check out this screen shot, for Software Installation. Look at the left hand pane with Advanced expanded.

    Oh boy, do I feel foolish. Thank you for not talking down to me! And Enable software installation is checked. Ok, back to the World Series. Thank you, again.
