Problem with Start>Run

Following a different thread in this forum I tried to use Start>Run>Chkdsk but the small screen just flashes on the screen and disappears.
msconfig and cmd work ok.
Usually if I have entered an invalid command the box opens and tells me.
Any ideas?

Thanks Pete that helps. But does the same apply to sfc / scannow, because that did the same thing? And I seem to remember the last time I used it it worked from 'Run'.

 

You can run sfc /scannow from the RUN box. Be certain to type the command properly, your post contains an improper space in the command.

You should also have been able to run chkdsk from the RUN box but the preferred method is as Pete said, establish a command window first. That way you can read any info or error messages generated before closing the command window as opposed to it closing automatically on completion.

Perhaps you had an improper space in that command as well since it dismissed you so fast.

 

Thanks for your reply. I ran scannow exactly as you typed it above. As regards this and chkdsk, this is exactly my point I should be able to run it from RUN but I can't.
Anyway this is really a curiosity query, as frankly apart from msconfig I never use it since 99% of the time I can't get what I'm looking for and I ca use the command prompt if needs be.
However, when I was trawling through the web, I realized that others were raising the same issue and mention was being made of viruses, registry faults, etc.

 

I see. Generally when I run up against some oddity like this, I run Dial-A-Fix. It's freeware that runs a pletora of common fixes and registers several dlls that would take ages to dig up on ones own. It's chicken soup since it does no harm if it does no good.
