A friend of mine has told me that they are using STOPzilla as their AV. I thought that STOPzilla was only anti-malware & not anti-virus. To be honest I haven't heard very good things about it. I would be grateful if anyone has any more information about it as an application.

You are correct - STOPzilla is not an antivirus.

As to it's efficacy I'm sure that broni will comment.

I just had a look at that link & checked with McAfee's Site Advisor. The site itself appears to be harmless but most people see STOPzilla as rogue-ware.

OK thanks. It certainly looks like it is in the grey area & I have also heard it is hard to uninstall as well. One review (PCMAG.com) claimed it was as good as SUPERAntiSpyware in performance however. Overall, most people seem to hate it. It isn't an AV though & I will have to inform my friend that it is mostly an anti-malware program.

It's too late, the poor bloke installed it a few weeks ago. I can tell him about it I suppose but I don't know if he'll believe me. I'll suggest he uninstalls it (if he can) & download some decent freeware.

To remove STOPzilla you need to right click on it's icon on the taskbar then click on Exit. Next open Task Manager and locate stopzilla.exe, click on it then click the End Process button. You can then uninstall it in Add/Remove Programs or equivalent for Vista and Windows 7.

OK, thanks for that. I suppose you could also do something similar in Software Explorer in Windows Defender.
