In another thread, I have resolved my PS issue by getting a new chassis and PS. But now that I have transferred my entire system to a new chassis, the a:\ drive light is always on: from BIOS to windows boot. Even now as I type this, the light is still active.

Is there a way to tell where Pin1 is for the cable? I'm assuming I put this in backwards because this only started happening when I replaced the chassis and had to hook everying up to the MB and peripherals again.

    PDuds,

The one pin is the red stripe on the cable. As far as on the MB, it is on the opposite side of the hard drive number one pin. If the HD pin is on the far right, the floppy pin one is on the far left.

    Hi,

I FREQUENTLY have this problem. Never have learned which way is correct. But I have discovered that if I reverse the cable connector to the drive, it either gets better or stays the same.
Nothing bad happens. You may want to try that approach.

Sometimes the MOBO pins aren't clearly marked so it's a **** shoot under those conditions. Apparently you lost on the first roll so just reverse the cable connection at one end (don't do both!)and you'll be all set. It really matters not about the red stripe as far as operation is concerned but it is nice to have it connected to the #1 pin if possible. That's usually the pin on the hard drive that's closest to the 4 pin power connector. Then connect the other end which ever way makes it work. Then get a "Sharpie" and mark both ends by placing a mark at the #1 pin on the device so it's a no-brainer next time. ;)

The cable on the MB was fine. Turns out I ran the cable to the drive backwards and required reversing. Thanks for the help!
