Two days ago my computer screen came out of sleep mode and the viewable section had shrunk. I used the horizontal control to try to stretch it back across the monitor, that did not work. Next I checked the cables and all are plugged in correctly. Next I decided to update the drivers. When that finished the screen seemed to turn off. Currently it is not showing anything and the power button just flashes on and off. The blinking stops when I disconnect it from the computer. I do not have any other computers to test the monitor. I'm stumped. I had to type this on my iPod.

The same happened to my LCD Unknown brand monitor, I just restarted my computer and the monitor came on for less than 2 sec, and darker at that, every time I pressed the monitor on/off button the same would happen. It has nothing to do with my video card x700pro as I tried the monitor on my Laptop and it does the same thing, I was told by my tech supply store that it is a resistor or a copper wire on the monitor board that is fried and was not worth the time or money to try and find where the problem is as a new LCD monitor is less cost new than to repair, so I bought a 20 wide screen Acer for $129.00 with a three year Parts-Labor-and Technical Support by Acer up here in Canada at Staples and I have seen them on sale for as low as $80.00 for the same monitor down there in the good old U.S. of A. By the way the part # is X203H and is the best monitor I have ever had so far..

Surely you have a friend with a computer? That really is the only reliable way of distinguishing between a faulty monitor and a faulty graphics card.

Have you tried changing the cable? That fixed an issue I had with my ancient monitor in the past. ;)
