I run a desktop and laptop wirelss connect.

My laptop indicates connected, excellent strength, however it will not connect to the internet.

The desktop is OK and I am using it to send this message.

Any idea why my laptop is not connecting...please?

Yes it has previously been connected but has been disconnected for the last couple of months whilst I took it on the road..but I did not use it for Internet whilst on the road

    thanking You

Check notebook settings. Possible WIFI has been disabled .. change to enabled. Then make sure it is connecting to your
router. Also may need to check WIFI/Router security settings

Another way to prove you WIFI connection is through your LAN ... can you move data from computer to computer or see other computer folders/shares?
    Browser Settings ....
    Tick "Never Dial Connection "
    Enable "On Line "
Also check firewall for any blocking of Internet connection.
Router .. Possible you have "Mac Address" filtering active. Desktop has MAC address entered, notebook does not.
Above question only valid if router has option, many do. Also be careful with notebooks, they have (2) MAC addresses. One for WIFI and 2nd one for wired/Ethernet.

    My hope were premature..still unresolved.
Loaded FF as an alternative...not working.
Shut down modem, removed and replaced its SIM CARD....still unresolved.
192.168.1.1 is requird to enter wireless settings
192.168.1.2 are the desktop ISP settings
192.168.1.3 are the Laptop ISP settings...but I am inclined to think that
Desktop should be 192.168.1.1 and Laptop 192.168.1.2 though of course I could be wrong, methinks that the Laptop 192.168.1.3 could be the conflict !!!!

Your situation has all the hallmarks of signal interference from another router
Rogue signals can drift in out of the blue from great distances out of anywhere
The windows wireless utility may not even see the other signal , yet the network card will bounce back between the two signals - yours and the others
You may well have good signal strength from your router yet no functional internet
    Sounds familiar ?

    Answer
    - change the channel on your router
    - default is usually channel 6
    - change the channel to anything else - however channels 1 and 11 are first picks
    - ensure router is high and not cluttered
    - sometimes moving the router over even a foot will help
the signal is said to be line of sight yet a lot is bounce around reflected signal
I am assuming that you had reception before
if you never did ensure the router is set so the wireless network adapter can use
( once had a problem of a new router set to n and g only and card was a b)
if the ssid is a default out of the box - say ssid default with dlink or linksys or wireless with linksys then change the ssid even if to only add a digit on
Again make sure router is clear , high and uncluttered
Once had a case of a know it all , who had reception problems
His wireless router was in a furnace/ utility room in the basement , on the floor , under a thick metal office desk
Wonder why he had limited reception on his wi fi
