All my Word docs open in Wordpad unless I tell it open with Word. I'm not sure what happened. Can anyone help?

Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> Open Windows Explorer
    Select any Microsoft Word Document.
Right click and choose Open With ->Choose Program
Make sure Microsoft Office Word is highlited.
Then check Always use the selected program to open this kind of file.

It depends on the filetype (3-4 letters after the name of the file). Right-click the document, and select "open with ". There should be a list of programs that can open it, Select the one you want, (or choose 'choose program' if you don't see what you want). When you find the program that you want to open the file, select it, then check the box under the window 'always use this program...' Click OK. The program you select will always open that filetype (unless Windows forgets again).

If you can't see a filetype after the name of the document (and want to), click the View tab (in Folder Options) and scroll down to 'hide extensions', and uncheck it. You will then be able to select the filetype tab, and scroll down to any filetype listed, and change the setting to whatever program you want to open files of that type.

I've already done all that. Now I'm finding out that the powerpoint docs are doing the same thing.

Ok. When you try the above - below the document name - does it show
Microsoft Word Document or Rich Text Format ?

PowerPoint files should have .ppt or .pps as an extension.

Open My Computer > Tools > Folder Options > File Types > and scroll down and highlight DOC and see what it reports. You can change the current opening program back to the default one or select a different one from that applet.

If you can't get it to stick using that method, you'll probably need to uninstall & re-install Word.
