Some time ago I learned through this forum (I think) that the reason I could no longer download youtube videos to real player (RP), was because firefox and my current version of IE had a compatibility problem with RP.(As some of you know the 'download this video' button disappeared)

So, fine, I had a load of downloads to keep me happy till the happy day when all would be well with the squabbling schoolkids in corporate la-la land; and I downloaded an flv converter and converted all my files to play them on WMP.

Came the happy day indeed when Oh Joy! I checked in with youtube to see and even hear the lovely Norah Jones whining on about not knowing why she didn't come (don't edit please, that's the name of the song) and found the cute little "download this video" (to RP) had, as if by magic re-appeared. Naturally I was full of glee to see this fine example of corporate co-operation in this the festive season.

But then reality clicked in as I clicked the download button and nothing whatsoever happened...nothing at all. I clicked again and this time I was told the RP had encountered a problem and had to close. I checked downloading preferences in RP and everything was properly activated and still...rien! (except the same error message)

    I've been bah-humbugged! (I think)

Now if any good soul, imbibed (not overly) with yuletide cheer is still reading this ( and why would you be) could you answer me these:-
    (a) has the problem been ironed out, in which case have I cocked it up and if so to that, what am I likely to be doing wrong; or
    (b) If the kids are still at it, is there another way to download the video from youtube without using RP at all (which I will then convert from FLV to AVI, as I don't want to use RP for organizational reasons).
Finally, (before the error report) Sad this may be but a tearful sniffle and of course some advice will do.
    Thank You
    RP version 1.5 (build 12.0.0.343)
    Firefox version 3.5.6
    IE8 version 8.0.6001.18702
Error Report7edc_Accompat, couldn't be attached as is too long

Good Man Niel, I'll give it shot.
I gave it a shot, but it's not really what I'm looking for. I need some way to download the actual file be it FLV or AVI

Just use the word "kiss" to download the flv to your comp.

    example:
If this is the youtube url, put the word "kiss" at this spot:
(I put spaces betwen letters so as not to create a real link)

    h t t p : / / w w w . k i s s youtube. c o m / watch?v=ZqHPqTDHxJs

You need to have java installed to download the video to your comp. This works for any youtube url.

    Working example:
    http://www.kissyoutube.com/watch?v=ZqHPqTDHxJs

    Official details here:
    http://www.kissyoutube.com/

Thanks for that Tony, that works! It's a useful post for a lot of people at the moment with all this rubish with RP.
How are things in Fairfax (nice place)? It's snowing like hell here in Kent.

Dunno, I got rid of mine. Real my butt. Also got rid of Quicktime and W Media Player. For my MP3 files ,I love my Winamp....and the skin I have chosen for it.

For everything else, only recently discovered the absolutely staggering VLC player. Even has FILE CONVERTER BUILT RIGHT IN!!...can capture external devices, does pedicures...it is amazing.

But for my flv files, I would't trade my Wimpy player for anything.
