I've searched around unsuccessfully for a program which would enable me to insert certain characters into my messages, e.g. characters such as ° ½ ☼ ♫ ☺ and so on. I got these from http://copypastecharacter.com/ but it means that I have to open a web page to avail of them. Would anyone have any suggestions, please?

    Thank you. :)

    alt 0186 = º
    alt 0189 = ½
    alt 0188 = ¼

Programs->Accessories->Character Map would do most any symbol.

Thanks, Charlie. I've printed that out.

PS - Is there an ascii code which will print out this ☺ in a text document? As you know : and ) if entered on a text document comes out only as exactly that. :)

    Hi Lugwalker,
    Uh, who is Charlie?

Anyway, MSWord and a lot of other office applications have built-in smilies. Even some e-mail accounts have them.

I just did a quick Google for "smileys for text documents" and there were quite a few hits. If you scan through some of the sites (go for the freebies) you should find one or two you'll like.

    Is this what you meant?

Yes, jp, smileys for text documents.

I'm ploughing through the hundreds of smiley sites now.

    Thanks! :)

Had that problem trying to get the UK pound symbol, since I have many links to the old country. I finally found an ASCII list of characters that can be called up by using the "ALT" key.

The pound symbol (£) is ALT0163. Beware, though, you have to use the keypad, as the row of number keys along the top of an ASCII keyboard have a different i/d.

Oh, OK, I see now. He's thanking Charlie (although I have no idea as to who he is).

    @fdamp,

Did you check out the link I posted? There an ASCII for €'s, too.

Yes, jp, and printed them out for handy reference. Also reviewed the hundred of sites. :)
