Hi all, happy new year :).
I am looking at getting a WIFI repeater to boost the signal in my house.
I purchased a cheap one a while ago with a "universal repeater" feature it works but very badly, it keeps droping the link and some times will not repeat the signal unless the main WIFI source is power cycled.
Can some one recommend a WIFI router/ repeater that will work well.

    Rgds

    George..

As a start, get better antennas for the main access point, 7-10 dB.

You should give us more information about what you intend to do. Do you want to have wireless throughout the house/building, at two ends, or maybe at one point a long way away from the internet connection?

I prefer to run a CAT5 cable if I can (the same way the electrical cables are run). When you talk about a "router ", that's how I would set one up.

I haven't used one. What I would do though is try to get one that is the same brand as the as wireless source (router?), which make it a little simpler to connect them. You might be able to space them out, including your old one, to give even better coverage.

If you see one that might be suitable, put the model number and the term "review" into a websearch. That might give you some information about what to look for with regards to specifications.

I'd suggest you investigate powerline or EOP adapters for this application. Pretty much made for this type of problem and should give you the best performance with least hassle.

I just used an old wireless G linksys router, works fine.
