I downloaded a screensaver (Z3_Magic) using 7zip and extracted it to Windows/system32 as instructed but it doesnt appear in the screesavers list in Display Properties. I've tried it in C/windows where I found another screensaver which does work. Anyone got any ideas.
Whilst I was looking in C/windows, I saw a file called VNCUTIL which is descibed as a 'noise canceling program' from Realtek or sony, Ive googled it but can't get any joy. does anyone know of this programme or what it does?
    Thanks.

VNCUTIL is part of the Realtec High Definition Audio Device on your motherboard.

I assume the screensaver is the BMW Z3 screen saver based on the Bond movie - the source I found had received <30 hits since 2007 - say's something I guess.

No evidence of that - just a total lack of interest.

My guess is that it may be coded badly - I can't try it as on running it says not compatible with my OS - 7

Re-read the instructions...Just dropping a .scr file into a folder isn't enough unless you want to create a shortcut to it and manually turn it on.

thanks Steve, there are no instructions with the programme, I was just following general instructions for installing screensavers, which are not very wide.
You mention manually creating a shortcut, how do I do that to make it work?
By the way when I click the *scr file it works ok, but it wont go into display properties.
I'm not overly concerned about this particular screensaver, I'd just like to know generally how to properly install screensavers manually when they dont have an actual install function. Thanks

Find the file in the System32 folder - right click on it and select send to desktop to create a shortcut.

Ive created a shortcut Steve, but how do I get the file into Display Properties?
Ive also tried to right click, then both install and configure but nothing happens.

Sorry. I don't know the answer. But hang tight maybe someone else will.

Or you can Google: adding screensavers

If you are referring to this screensaver .....

    http://www.bmwresource.com/free-bmw-stuff/bmw-screen-savers/z3/details-2.html

I can confirm that it does not work with XP. As it was written in 1995 it predates XP by a mile.

Strangely though if you right click on it in system32 > test - it previews, but it ain't that great.

I guess you drive a BMW - which one? - mine is the current 3 Series coupé - diesel auto.

Thanks for the advice, and here's the weird thing; I went out leaving the computer on with the screensaver settings switched to 'none' in display properties and when I get home there's the BMW screensaver on the screen!
By the way I don't drive now because of medication I'm on, but before that it was always Jaguar (I felt the Good Lord might strike me down if I changed), but even I have to admit they were losing their way till Ford stepped in.
