how to speed up system performance?

    when you install winxp, it boots very fast and system performance is very good.

    but when you have winxp running for a while and installed a series of programmes, the startup time increases drasticly and system performance decreases.

    does anyone know some good advice and/or tools to speed up the bootprocess and/or increase performance in winxp?
