I am building a new desktop that will have a brand new SATA HDD in it so I want to do a clean install of my retail version of XP Pro . I have the original Microsoft XP Pro SP2 CD plus I have a Microsoft SP3 CD. I know I can slipstream these two into one bootable CD.

I also have many many additional updates since SP3 that I have download from the Microsoft Download Center using my netbook wifi at the library and then applied them one at a time to my desktop system. My internet connection at home is a slow 24kbs dial up and is way too slow for many of the monthly updates.

I want to have as clean a system as I can get then do a backup using Acronis and save a copy offline for "just in case ". I plan to keep using XP for quite a while yet. Perhaps even all the way up to it's final breath.

My question: is it possible to include all these "additional" updates into a slipstreamed CD so I don't have to apply them individually after the new install?

You might want to check this site:

    SLIPSTREAMING WINDOWS XP

The site also states "And slipstreaming isn't limited to service packs, either: You can also slipstream in various product updates, including hot-fixes "

    sp3841,

I read both the article on slipstreaming SP2 and the one on SP3. I agree he says in the SP2 article that "You can also slipstream in various product updates, including hot-fixes" but nowhere, that I could find anyway, does he explain where and how to add the updates into the mix.

So I guess my question now is not "can it be done" but how and where are the updates mixed in?

I think Arie has posted about this previously. Have a search under Arie's Posts. Cheers Neil.

    Microsot has a site:

How to slipstream hotfixes that replace pre-existing driver files

Here is another site that might be helpful.

    http://www.theeldergeek.com/slipstream_06.htm

And your right - I pulled the web link out of one of my favorites. I noticed the
"And slipstreaming isn't limited to service packs, either: You can also slipstream in various product updates, including hot-fixes" that's why I gave you the link. I used the site a while back for slimstreaming XP and SP3.
Sorry about that. The 2 links above should help you in your quest.

Have a safe and Happy New Year.

To slipstream the updates into your windows source, use the following command from the Run dialogue box or a command prompt:

    "X:\Folder\filename.exe /integrate:X:\XPSource "

(If there are no spaces in your filename or path, you do not need to enclose it in quotes)

(I think you can figure out to replace "X" with the appropriate drive letter and "filename.exe" with the actual filename of the update and "XPSource" with the location of your XP Source)

Thanks guys for your replys. It looks like it is just about as easy to apply them the hard way. I'll consider doing the slip streaming after the fact.
