[FONT= "Comic Sans MS"]I use my ThinkPad, mostly connected.

I was using with old battery that had failed, to protect the battery compartment but do not like the weight.

Now the machine will not boot up all the way with that battery in place. I have to run disconnected, or with a new battery.

Any way to protect the battery compartment when empty or some dummy batter in place to protect the area? I tried on line search for dummy battery...probably none made, but wondered...

    Thanks.

    Protect the area from what?
Is the cover still on when the battery is out?

    I haven't heard of a dummy battery.

I expect that connecting a broken battery would not be be very good for the laptop.

Do you sit it on your lap? You might consider a docking station (IBM/Lenovo call it a Port Replicator), if you sit it on a desk.

Do you want to avoid reducing the lifespan of the new battery? They say to extend the lifespan, don't recharge after short discharges.
I have set mine to recharge below 50% (default was 95%), which means my battery might only recharge once a week. If yours is similar to my model, look in the Thinkvantage -> Power Management (Fn + F3), under Battery Maintenance.

This might not be what you are trying to do, but you might be able to find an alternative/work-around.

    Battery Compartment

[FONT= "Comic Sans MS"]Thanks Matt, will put in my new bigger battery and give that a go.

I just do not like the weight (I know, it is not a biggie) but do not like to keep the big gap in the back/bottom all the time.

Thought there might be a fix, so there is not and will do as you suggested.

    Appreciate it.

Ditto to the max. I do this with my Alienware Sentia, this is very important, accurate info!
