Resolved Media player 11 not loading

I installed media player 11 from the MS update site, and control panel lists it in the add & remove programmes section.
When I start media player it is media player 9 that loads, and in the add/remove programmes section of the control panel if I try to remove mp 11 I get an update screen for mp9.
I have searched the forums for an answer but cannot find one, but I apologise if this problem has been answered.
Could anyone point me towards a solution.
