Samsung CD/DVD burner will read but not burn

    I just built a new desktop a while back. Everything went smoothly until I tried to burn a music CD from iTunes, it just sat on the "beginning burn" phase, it never acutally started writing anything. I finally did a hard reboot and tried it again, same thing happened. The burner I have did not come with any installation CD's and has read numerous CD's and games just fine. I have downloaded the latest drivers for my motherboard and still no luck. Any tips on what I should try would be greatly appreciated.

    Havik,

    You may want to download and install the latest drivers from Samsung for your CD\DVD burner.

    Your right about the optical part - I must not have had my spectacles on when I read the post. Getting older by the second.

    The odds are that the burning side of the drive has failed - does it fail to burn CD's & DVD's? Different lasers/circuitry are used for each.
