I have Kaspersky Internet Security 2010 installed. I have had Kaspersky for the past three years (renewing annually) and I never have any problems whatsoever. It automatically updates in the background and scans several times daily.

My computers all seem to come with Norton AV trial version. I never knew better so I used it. It slowed my computer down quite a bit.

I tried Avira and loved it. I installed it on my both my husband's and daughter's laptops. When they were offering version 9 I had difficulty uninstalling version 8 and installing the new version. At that juncture I decided to install Avast. I love it as well.

In addition to the AV, all computers run SuperAntispyware, Malwarebytes, SpywareBlaster and in all but my daughter's laptop, SpyBot. Do not know if this is overkill, but I have never had an infection. False positives have happened, but no infections.

My firewall is TPF version 2.1.5. I lovei t because it recognizes every change I make to my programs and asks me to allow it or not.

Experiment with several apps and decide for whichever you are most comfortable with. ;)

For those using AVAST with MS Vista Home Edition, did you have trouble in the Security area recognizing Avast as your AV program? It had an update button, which I did, but still didn't update or show as an active AV.
I was using Avira and it was recognized in the Security area for an active AV program. I just didn't like the lack of info provided by Avira.

Im running Avira Antivir personal, Ive used it for years. also Spybot, and Ccleaner. Avira has stopped several viruses, and spybot has warned me of several site, that might be dangerous. Ccleaner cleans up after being on the net, and cleans up after I uninstall programs, that don't clean up right.

Before my computer overhaul, using XP, I had a ton of virus problems. This was running avast, which I had always used because its what my dad has always used.
Now on Windows 7 I am using ESET NOD32 which has had no problems at all. If it detects a virus, it kills it with minimal interruptions. It also keeps my computer up to date, and tells me when there is an essential windows update.

Used Avast and AVG (obviously not simultaneously) and have now been using Avira for over a yr and I think it's great free anti-virus software.
But as w/ most things in life, everyone has their own preference. :)
