    Hi guys.

I just bought COD:MW2 and i see my NAT is set to "strict" and i see i should open it (enable UPNP) but i have no clue on how to do it in my D-link DSL-2650U router. searching the web didnt help diddly squat as all explanations referred me to other models of D-link routers and in the D-link website that model that i have doesnt even appear in the list :(

i wish i knew where to look for that since i can't figure this out myself.

in the router settings i can see NAT settings but all i can do is open TCP andd UDP ports and i dont think that this is what "enabling UPNP" means.

    help? :( (puppy eyes)

uPNP is a protocol used by some systems to open/allocate ports at the router. If uPNP is not supported by your router, the easiest fix is to manually set up the port forwarding. I expect a google search will identify the ports you need to forward. For example googling:

    cod mw2 port forwarding

i thought upnp is a tick box or an option i should enable.

i opened some ports and now the game says my NAT is OPEN so something worked.
can u explain WHAT worked? what ports fixed the issue?
just so i will understand this feature better.

    thanks for your help.

Ports are a huge topic and I couldn't answer your question properly in a single post. Have a search to tcp ip ports. Basically, to allow multiple applications to access your network connection at once, each is assigned a port. If you connect to the internet via NAT it alters all the port numbers. Forwarding the ports makes sure the port number that hits the router is the same port number that hits your PC, and therefore the traffic goes to the right application. uPNP auto-negotiates the right ports for you.
