I have used an HP Photosmart C6380 All-In-one Printer Scanner for the past year. Now when I press the start button, nothing happens. It does not start. I have a new Power Supply, so I think that would not be a problem. When I start the Power Supply, a blue light comes on in the Scanner. There is also a small blue light on the Power Supply. That is all there is. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the Printer. Nothing. The PC is a Compaq SR1500NX, with 1.5GB memory, using XP. It is connected by USB after application finished, as per HP requirement. The Printer Scanner is not used everyday. It has been used often enough to go through 2 sets of Ink Cartridges.

    Hi,

When you say you uninstalled the multifunction HP, do you mean within XP?

Does it appear in your Printers folder? With the indication, "ready "? If so, does it appear as your default printer?

Did you try another USB port?

If yes to all of the above, I think I would uninstall it, remove it's cable from the USB port, reboot, hook it back up and see if Windows recognizes it as new hardware.

Yes to all above. When I uninstall and Reboot or reinstall and reboot, I must Add Printer to get the printer back. It still does not start.

Rats! And thanks for the info. Are you saying no function works? The scanner as well?

When you reinstall, are you pointing to the HP driver file in your system or using a CD?

Are their indicator lights on the machine for issues like stuckpaper or low ink carts? How about the modules within the HP software that monitor those things?

Can you run functions such as head cleaning? In the past, when you turned everything on, did you hear the pritner/scanner engage audibly? Does it now?

PS, when you plug in another USB device, i.e, yr mouse or KB in the port the device is in now, do those fnction properly?

When you go into Device Manager, do yuu see any warnings next to USB drivers?

I will now google this puppy and see what I can learn.

i also feel it is never a waste of time to email customer support. I believe HP is still OK in such

I see you do have both the Essentials and Print Utilities in the original software. And that as with all new items of this sort, no connectivity options beside USB,

When I reinstalled I used the CD that came with the printer. Later on I downloaded HP update drive. No help. The only lights are on the scanner and Power Supply. All others are not on. No Functions will run. Backup drive and wireless mouse are always on USB and work just fine. No warnings on Device Manager. I tried everything on the http://h10025 web site. Nothing.

I am so sorry trying to reset the power module and engaging the nboard power test in the unit did nothing.

Again, in the past, when the device was working and you would turh it on, Did XP make the default sound ? It makes the opposite sound when turning the device off.

Do you recall hearing such sounds? Do you get the sounds now, simply using the on/off button on the device?

It appears yr device is not communicating with your computer. I thought it was the device, per se, but Now, I am unsure.

Tell me, do you have or can you borrow another working printer to try to install as a test?

Did the issue present immediately after the new PSU was installed? And, if I may aske, who did that installation? Was the reason for the installation you felt the original PSU was inadequate, or wer you having issues with the computer because of which you got the new PSU?

Afterthoughts: who installed the device initially? in some devices, the installation instructions are so esoteric, they tell you sometimes to install the software FIRST before hooking up/plugging in the printer/device.

Are you following the HP instructions exaclty?

When you install it now, do you get a balloon message on yr systray at the bottom from XP?

    WAIT!

All this time, when you mentioned "power supply," I thought you meant the Power supply Unit in your computer!

What do I win for this stupid?????

Now.....WHY did you get a new power supply for your HP peripheral?

Assuming some issue of dysfunction led to this replacement, what was that issue?

(Only making annoying new posts rather than adding edits, cause I do not want you to miss anything, I want you to get the notifications.)

Here's the as the crow flies, why not? Here's their support page with both phone and email options, 24/7.
    http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/contact/phone_assist.html#section1

You have nothing to loose by calling, right? Or emailing, but given the frustration, sometime phone is good.

This is not an old device. (Tho also why I will never own a multifunction anything.) HP is obligated to help you. Especially since some issue I am now dying to know the specifics of, led you to buy the new A/C power adapter already.

I am back to feeling it's the HP device and not XP.

    HANG IN.

I do all of the installations. I have the sounds turned off. Turned them back on. Nothing. The unit would not turn on, so I checked different things and noticed that the electrical connections on the Power Supply might not be making a good connection. Got a new one and no help. Checked the voltage on new and old. Both have 32 volts, which is normal. I have been to the welcome support site several times, and did not help. That is where I got the new drivers. I have not tried the phone assistance. Things are beginning to get in an uproar around here. Will last through rest of the week. May get to phone next week. "Merry Christmas "

I hope it's a good kind of uproar, and Merry to you as well!

You tried to troubleshoot the original issue yourself. people do that. Now, when you have time because you pay for support when you buy the peripheral.....CALL THEM. Be patient; you may get put on hold and have to key in this and that. Globalization.

but if you hang in and realx, it will help immeasurably.

But it's the device, not your computer. And all the multifunction peripherals are very complex, tons of technology and ICBs jammed into a tiny space.

Have a lovely holiday, please follow up when you can and do report back!

I went to HP and asked for help. After waiting, I learned that it is probably some hardware problem. The unit is probably not worth the price of getting it fixed. I will go another direction. Thanks for all your help.

    Hey Wahlroot!

Been thinking bout you and yr Peripheral.

Alas, this does not surprise me. Again, I stand by my not capriciously arrived at distain for the multifunction peripherals. Again way too much technology, far too many integrated circuit boards crammed into too small a space.

    But guys especially, luv them.

Such things are made to be disposable, and not built to last.

And again, I observe, the newer the device, the crummier it is made anyhow. and HP ain't chopped liver. But it is also a victim of Globalization, must be to stay competitive.

Good luck on yr replacement choice or choices!!!

And, if you feel this thread is now resolved, might you pls go to the lower of the 2 toolbars here>Thread tools>dropdown menu>Mark as solved?
