Graphics missing on web pages

I am hoping someone can help me figure out how to enable the graphics missing on web pages. I have looked in all the files I can think to look in...for example...when I log onto Facebook I cannot see the blue banner at the top where a member's profile, messages tabs are located. The number that would be next to messages is hidden. The green dot next to names of friends who are logged on is not visible. Same thing with other sites...myspace, craigslist. I am truly hoping this is just a setting issue. Please help me with this matter.

Thank you for your question. I am currently using Firefox, but the same thing is happening with Internet Explorer.

No, not always. Though it has been a long time since I have been on this computer. A friend of my mother's thinks she knows a lot about computers...however, not as much as she would like to believe. I am thinking something has been deleted or disabled.

The operating system is XP and was in the computer when it was purchased back in '03.
